To support the research needs of the University of Florida, and to achieve the strategic direction for creative and dynamic content management, the team in the Acquisitions & Collections Services Department of the George A. Smathers Libraries work to manage a materials budget in excess of 13 million dollars, and to acquire and ensure continued access to thousands of materials that support the needs of students, staff, faculty, and administration. to perform vendor maintenance, and to acquire electronic resources, print books, serials, and other material formats.
The department consists of three units of operation: Accounting & Serials, Collections Support, and Electronic Resources (E-Resources). Additionally, there are programs that include Gifts and Exchanges. Many diverse tasks are performed in this department including ensuring material access, establishing license agreements, ordering of library materials, paying of invoices, and managing the budget and ledgers across allocations, expenditures, and funds. The team also administers several Use-Driven Acquisitions (UDA) plans, maintains access to databases and online journals, and oversees monograph approval/slip plans. And acquires materials across multiple formats including: cds, dvds, electronic resources, print books, print serials, and streaming videos.
