Cross-Unit Working Group Achieves a Shared Goal!
By Erin Gallagher
The entire Website Working Group--April Peebles, Eric Gumbayan, Pauline Bickford-Duane, Laura Feder, and Michelle McClure-- have demonstrated stellar collaboration in designing and implementing our new Acquisitions & Collections Services website. This was a shining example of how a cross-Unit working group can collaborate to achieve a shared goal. Members of the working group all have skill and expertise in diverse areas. With their powers combined, they took the initiative to develop comfort with new technical tools (Wordpress), met regularly to build on their progress, sought feedback from Department members, and communicated updates along the way. This was more than just a technical achievement, though; they also injected an effervescent dose of creativity into the project. Our new website now promises to be a central hub of information, service, and fun. The website is a perfect reflection of the care and talent of the folks who created it. I'm proud to be part of such a dynamic team and to share the accomplishments of the Website Working Group with the larger library community!

Verna Brings Joy!
By Erin Gallagher
I happily nominate Verna Bedford for the sparkling communal energy she brings to both our Department and the Smathers Libraries. Verna is a rarity among our colleagues in that she not only provides excellent service through her role, but that she constantly models upbeat unity in all her interactions. Verna serves on the Picnic, Winter Celebration, and Homecoming Float Committees. You may ask, out of all the dozens of committees operating in the Libraries, why are these so important? Well, the work of these committees is what gives me life and adds meaning to my job. Without events such as the Spring Picnic to look forward to, I wouldn't feel so fulfilled in my day-to-day work. We're all employed by UF to provide a service to our community, but we aren't service robots. We're humans who enjoy the delights of gathering with our colleagues, sharing meals and stories, and celebrating a job well done. Verna's constant efforts on these committees means we can all enjoy the rewards of our labor, but she doesn't stop there. Verna spreads that cheer every day in Acquisitions & Collections Services. Whether beautifying our spaces with holiday decorations or organizing potlucks, Verna brings the joy to our team!
